(This seminar in RWTH
Campus System)
The Ultra High-speed Mobile Information and
Communication (UMIC) project is
an interdisciplinary research cluster at RWTH Aachen University under the
German Excellence Initiative. The goal is to provide an order of magnitude
improvement of the perceived quality of mobile services. Concepts and demonstrators for
smart, mobile, broadband, low-cost systems are developed to support the
next-decade mobile Internet. Within the sub area
Mobile Applications and
Services, mobile applications and their interplay with the wireless
transport, mobile multimedia processing and peer-to-peer mobile
information processing etc. are focused on. Hence, mobile data management
is a key topic to enhance data quality and data mobility, to manage,
share, search and retrieve data on mobile devices via wireless connections,
and allow for mobile applications of the next decade. In the seminar,
topics about mobile database, multimedia, XML, peer to peer and other
data management technologies are to be researched for mobile communities.
The goal of this seminar are to get an overview of approaches to
mobile data management. Various mobile databases, peer-to-peer
databases, mobile multimedia repositories and XML technologies are to be
compared and researched, and
their mobile application fields are to be explored. This seminar will also discuss
the state-of-the-art developments in mobile data management areas.
12 topics will be assigned to the students, the talks will be presented in an intensive two day learning course.
The language of the seminar is English, though we accept seminar papers in German.
